Jos Brouwers was appointed as professor in Analytical Techniques in Life Science at Avans University of Applied Sciences in September 2020. Trained as a molecular scientist, he has employed various analytical techniques to elucidate issues in the biological and biochemical domains of the life sciences. Particularly, high-resolution accurate mass spectrometry and other data-intensive methods such as nanopore sequencing are characteristic of his current research group. Bioinformatics is also an important component of recent work. Examples of recent research include the profiling of medications and lifestyle markers in individual hairs, chemical fingerprinting of drug waste, and the investigation of characteristic byproducts in naturally derived narcotics such as cocaine and cannabis.
